Summer Passage
Here we go once more
Into the unknown
The cornfields and the familiar give way
To wildflowers and forest pines
And You bring cleansing rain
There is always some heartache at the parting
But it feels a little good to get out of town
The sweet sendoff comes from Your hand
Filled with grace and sweets and smiles
Bedtime stories on the shore
Midnight glimpses of glimmering galaxies
Like the night You gave your promises like stars
And knew that one of them would be me
But there are other lands your people never knew You created
Pine-covered hills undiscovered
Territories yet to be explored
There is a hidden portal to another land
The world stayed back, but we went through
And You rolled out your royal welcome
Guided us along straight paths
That burst into bloom
Fields of gold never ending
Paths of purple sprinkled with white like the stars
Lakes adorning mountain ranges like jewels
You held back the mountains and the sun and the clock
And the leaves clapped their hands for You
It was a sacred voyage to travel with You
With Your Word in my ear, igniting my heart
Every hilltop crest felt like the edge of the world
For you are not “safe,” but You are Good
And I need not fear anywhere you lead me
So long as you are at the helm
Indeed, it will grow cold and the land turn fierce
But you warm my heart with obsidian gold
And lead me to the raven’s rest.
The mountains stretch on
Layer upon layer of shadowy blue
But not forever.
I know what lies beyond the valley.
The final mountain is where You return
And You… are forever.
